he Festino of Santa Rosaliais one of Palermo’s most powerful and captivating religious and cultural events, celebrated every year fromJuly 10th to 15th. In 2025, the city will host the401st editionof this centuries-old tradition, which began in1625, when Palermo pledged devotion to its beloved "Santuzza" to be freed from the plague.

Today, the Festino blendsfaith, celebration, and community, attracting visitors, families, and friends from all over Italy and abroad.

A Journey Through History: The Triumphal Float

The tradition began in1625, when the people of Palermo carriedSanta Rosalia’s remainsin a procession to the port in gratitude for the end of the plague. Since then, every year the city renews this act of faith with aspectacular triumphal floatparading along the ancient Cassaro (nowVia Vittorio Emanuele, all the way toPorta Felice).

Atop the float sits the statue of Santa Rosalia—the emotional and symbolic heartof the event. After the main celebration, the float is displayed for several weeks at theForo Italico, drawing locals and tourists alike.

The 2025 Festino Route

For the401st anniversary, the Festino will follow its traditional path: from thePalazzo dei Normanni, through the historic center, ending atPorta Felice. The float procession is scheduled for theevening of July 14th, starting at9:00 PM.

Highlights of the route include:Piazza della Cattedrale,Quattro Canti, featuring Palermo’s four female patron saints (Santa Cristina, Santa Ninfa, Sant’Oliva, and Sant’Agata), ending at theForo Italicowith a dazzlingfireworks display
